Our family seems to be making a routine out of Sunday night ER trips.
Trip #1: For my husband who tried to cut his finger off building a tree house for the kids in our backyard (thankfully he was unsuccessful at cutting his finger off).
Trip #2: For my son who managed to break his arm at 6 Flags. As it turns out IF you continue to climb on the railings in line even after your mom and step dad have both asked you to stop, you might break your arm.
Trip #3: Routine preventative care for my husband—if you’re over 45, you probably know what that means.
I’ve been through emergencies before as a mom, but this time feels different.
It never gets easier to see your kid—or your husband—in pain.
And still, I’m deeply grateful for so many things:
Friends and family on speed dial when my prefrontal cortex shuts down
A job that lets me be mom and wife first
A nurse who speaks fluent Magic: The Gathering
An income that covers the copays without major stress
VIP status at the ortho office (unofficial, but earned)
Clients who understand—because they’re parents and caregivers too
In the past, a week like this would’ve set me way behind—mentally, emotionally, and financially.
But I’ve done a lot of work to get to a place where that's not true.
A job that supports my life, an income that allows us to pay for what matters without stress, and an incredible support system, including a business coach who’s really a whole-life coach.
Is your current job designed to support your life (financially, logistically, with PTO, etc...), even when emergencies happen?
Do you have the right support in place for yourself?
What are you grateful for, even when things are hard?
Consider journaling on these, chatting with a friend, or even recording a quick voice note.
And if you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you, just hit reply.
Wishing you a MUCH less eventful week than ours!
With love,
Sarah
